For a minute there I thought you were happy you were going to start getting Amber Alerts to your phone. I need more coffee.

Yeah, there is a lot of confusion about that since they chose a dumb name for this update.
It has nothing to do with the "Amber Alert" system, thankfully.

Hate to be that guy but I'm gonna be that guy .
They say "We expect Microsoft to make the update available beginning 10/10." well Amber is not Microsoft's deal - it's Nokia's. Yes, Microsoft bought Nokia but they're still different entities at this juncture.
Amber and GDR2 are two different things. GDR2 is Microsoft's update, Amber is Nokia's. GDR2 is required for Amber, Amber is not required for GDR2. While they may be partially correct in stating that they've finally approved GDR2 to be pushed by Microsoft, they state nothing about the approval process of Amber. Nokia's availability chart still shows:
So we may be in line to get GDR2. Could be today, could still be weeks. But there's no word on Amber's approvals as far as Nokia is concerned; if they don't have approval, we don't get software.
All this being said, I'm running GDR2 and Amber on my phone and it RAWKS. I may consider going back to an ATT ROM in the future, but right now this Rogers one is tits. DataSense (one application that ATT has deemed unsuitable and is being stripped from Amber) is probably the best data usage tracking application I've ever used. Suck it, ATT.

Well...Shit.
Is there any way to install DataSense after the official update finally rolls out without having to root/jailbreak/smash (What does one call it on WP?) my phone?

I don't think so. Since it's part of the extras+info application, it's not available in the store.

I'm not surprised. I noticed immediately that WP8 on ATT is designed specifically to obscure where you are using data in order to increase revenue by incurring overages.
That you have to change the setting to have WiFi always on from the default of it turning off when the screen is off speaks volumes about how they are trying to make it harder for you to control your bill.
I cannot wait for my contract to be up so I can tell them to Fuck Off and move to T-Mobile.
Dear ATT,
Fuck. You.

Well holy balls, AT&T didn't fucking lie!
Amber is also approved. Godspeed, sir!
(Though I still have DataSense lol)

Well, you can't win them all.
ATT lets us know when we reach 65% and 90% of our data plans. And I'm nearly always on WiFi anyway, so I should be able to live without it.
Though, it is stuck at the 100% preparing to install screen. I'll wait a while longer before I do a soft reset.

Wait it out. It can take upwards of 45 minutes to get past 100%
Remember, this is Microsoft time .

Yeah, it got to the confirm install selection. It's doing the rotating gears thing now.

Downloaded and installed.
The glance screen is cool. I turned it off though. You have to keep your phone screen spotless, lest it turn on all the time even when set to "peek." That and the lame black background, I'm not sold yet.
I thought we would be able to change colors, have custom sounds and stuff. Is that this update, or the GDR3 they are working on still?
I'll be happy with better connectivity and battery life.

Glance is awesome shut up
Go download the "Glance Background" application that should now be available to you. That'll solve the lame black background issue. I don't have any issues with running it on peek...
No colors, no custom sounds, no stuff. That's either GDR3 or 8.1
Have you installed Nokia Pro Cam yet? That's where the tits lie

Already had Pro Cam apparently. Never used it though. Haven't taken pics with my phone for a while. May have to find a reason to use it.
Can't find the glance background app. Who is the developer?

Glance Background is a Nokia app. Scan this QR to see if you can get it

Got it.
I'll have to clean my phone before I try it again. I've turned Glance on with Peek, and it just stays on when I close the screen.
The double-tap to wake up is awesome though. I hear that GDR3/8.1 will support closing multitask apps from the tile screen. That will be nice.

I had some initial issues with Peek that seemed to work themselves out quickly (an hour or so)
Peek will stay on indefinitely it seems when you're plugged in.

Not plugged in.
Good to know though. I have it set to run the "nighttime" brightness from 10pm to 7am.
I may give it a try again once I am home and can play with it some more.
